Agartala: Nov 27: YTF has submitted a deputation to the West Tripura District Magistrate demanding a reconsideration of the decision to build a five-star hotel in the old Raj Bhavan. Today, members of the organization took out a procession from in front of the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, paraded through various parts of the city, and submitted a deputation to the District Magistrate.
Addressing the media today, a leader of the organization said, “The state government has decided to build a five-star hotel in the old Raj Bhavan of Agartala. While the people of the state want development, it is impossible to achieve development by erasing history.”
He further added, “Pushpabanta Palace is an ancient royal palace of Tripura. It was built by Maharaja Virendra Kishore Manikya in 1917. It served as the Raj Bhavan of Tripura until 2018, after which it was relocated. However, the state government has decided to build a five-star hotel in the old Raj Bhavan. This Raj Bhavan carries the legacy of Tripura’s royal era.”
He stated, “While Tripura needs development, the state government should not sell historical places for money and profit.” He called upon the entire state to come forward and join the protest against this.
