Mobile Phone Seller Dies Following Knife Attack; Investigation Launched into Police Conduct

Agartala: Oct 17: Harishankar Saha, a mobile phone seller from Mela Maath, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at JB Hospital. The incident, which occurred on October 15, involved Rahul Roy, a resident of Collegetila, who allegedly stabbed Saha following a dispute over a transaction.

According to reports, Roy repeatedly stabbed Saha inside his shop, causing significant bloodshed and terror among nearby shopkeepers. Some bystanders captured the incident on camera. Police arrived at the scene promptly, arrested Roy, and recovered the weapon. However, an angry mob subsequently assaulted Roy, leaving him seriously injured.

A video of the incident circulating on social media has raised questions about the role of the police, particularly the TSR jawans present at the scene, who reportedly did not intervene. In response, Police Superintendent Kiran Kumar announced that an investigation would be conducted to address the criticisms regarding police conduct. He assured that strict action would be taken if any lapses were found. Additionally, four jawans of the 7th Battalion of TSR have been suspended in connection with the incident.
