Justice T. Amarnath Gaur, acting chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, wrote a letter to Chief Justice Apurba Kumar Singh, highlighting the alarming trend of AIDS cases among school and college students. The letter included data on the rise of AIDS in the state. Taking the matter seriously, the Tripura High Court initiated a suo moto case.

Government lawyer Kohinoor Narayan Bhattacharya confirmed that a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Apurba Kumar Singh and Justice Arindam Lodh, recently took up the case. They have summoned representatives from the state government’s education and health departments, the central government’s health ministry, and the National AIDS Control Organization. These authorities are expected to explain their efforts to prevent AIDS and drug addiction among students and provide details of measures taken so far.

The court’s proactive approach underscores the seriousness of the issue and aims to safeguard the well-being of students in Tripura.
