Agartala: May 22: In a tragic incident, Sukhen Das, a heart patient and resident of Pratapgarh area in Agartala, was beaten to death by a shopkeeper. The altercation arose when Sukhen Das refused to open his closed shop to sell cigarettes. The accused, Dipankar Sarkar, had visited Sukhen Das’s tea shop on May 16. After having tea, Dipankar claimed he had no money. The next day, he asked Sukhen Das for a cigarette, but Sukhen Das explained that the shop was closed. On May 18, when Sukhen Das finally opened the shop, Dipankar attacked him with a brick, causing serious injuries.

A vigilant rickshaw driver rescued Sukhen Das and rushed him to GB Hospital. Unfortunately, Sukhen succumbed to his injuries on Monday afternoon. His wife, Iti Das, filed a murder case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the East Police Station. The police promptly initiated an investigation.
