Agartala: May 14: In a recent demonstration, Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress raised concerns about the increasing insecurity faced by women in the state under the double engine government. The protest took place at West Mahila Police Station, where a delegation submitted their demands.

The urgency of the protest stems from alarming incidents of violence against women. Just two days ago, two youths kidnapped and gang-raped a housewife from the Battala area of Agartala. Simultaneously, another young man abducted and molested a minor girl studying in Class IX in the Badharghat area. Shockingly, he also inflicted burns from cigarettes on her body. Despite these heinous crimes, the Mahila Thana police have failed to apprehend the perpetrators even after 48 hours.

The Sadar District Women’s Congress initiated the protest, emphasizing that women in Tripura are suffering from insecurity during the rule of the double engine government. In response, a deputation was submitted to Paschim Mahila Police Station, urging immediate action to arrest the criminals responsible for these brutal acts.

During the protest, Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress co-president Ratna Singha, Pradesh Mahila Congress general editor Shreyashi Laskar, and Sadar district Mahila Congress president Rupa Roy Das were among those present.
