Agartala: Jan 13: Home Minister and Chief Minister Manik Saha informed the Tripura Legislative Assembly that a total of 2,815 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested over the last three years for illegal infiltration into India, from 2022 to October 31, 2024. This information was provided in response to unmarked questions raised by Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, and CPI(M) MLA Nayan Sarkar during the second day of the 13th Assembly session.
Out of the 2,815 arrests, 1,746 Bangladeshi nationals have been deported back to their home country. The remaining 1,069 individuals are still under various forms of detention. Among these, 474 are in jail custody, 8 are in temporary detention centers, 2 are in shelters, and 585 have been released on bail by the court.
The Home Minister’s report highlights the ongoing efforts by the state government to address the issue of illegal infiltration, emphasizing the legal measures taken to apprehend and deport unauthorized foreign nationals. The issue of cross-border infiltration has been a significant concern for the state, and the authorities are actively working to curb such illegal activities through arrest, detention, and deportation processes.
These figures also indicate the considerable workload faced by law enforcement agencies in managing such infiltrations, with a large number of individuals still in detention. The government continues to take legal action in accordance with Indian immigration laws and is committed to addressing the issue through both prevention and legal procedures.
