Two Mizoram districts- Aizawl and Saitual share around 95 km long border with Manipur.

Sources from Saitual District said that 16 people had entered the district from Friday seeking refuge in the state.

The displaced people are lodged at a makeshift camp at North-East Khawdungsei village on Mizoram-Manipur border, he said.

The official said that the district administration was providing food and other relief to the displaced people.

He added that an influx of more people from the neighbouring state is likely to take place.

A senior official of Assam border Kolasib district also said that at least 151 people from the neighbouring state fled to Vairengte and Saipum villages on Friday.

Meanwhile, the state General Administration department has instructed all deputy commissioners to be on high alert for possible influx of people from the neighbouring state.

A notification issued by the department also asked the district administration to make appropriate arrangements to provide safety and security, including temporary shelter and other amenities to people seeking refuge in the state.

The department further instructed the deputy commissioners to ensure the safety of the Meitei community and take stringent measures to prevent any possible flare up of ethnic tension within their respective jurisdictions.
