171 citizens of Tripura from violent hit Manipur returned

First lot of 171 citizens of Tripura from violent hit Manipur returned to their home state by a special flight on Sunday midnight.

Most of them are medical students studying in the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Manipur capital Imphal.

On returning back they expressed their horrific experience there and heaved a sigh of relief as they came back to Tripura.

They said inside the RIMS hostel they were safe but were panicked as outside the campus lot of violence was occurring as they regular witnessed arson incidents beside continuously hear the sound of bullet firing and explosions taking place all around.

The students also said that for the first time they were facing such a volatile situation happening in their close proximity due to which they were very tensed and wanted to return back home despite the authority assuring all safety and security.

Few citizens of Tripura working in Manipur also returned back with their family members and expressed their gratitude to the state government for arranging their evacuation.

Large number of worried guardians who had gathered at the MBB airport to receive their children thanked the state government and Chief Minister for arranging the return.

The state government shall continued the process of evacuating the state residents stranded in Manipur.

37 more students of the Central Agriculture University who have reached Guwahati shall fly to Agartala in the noon by another special flight arranged by the state government.

Again 50 tribal students and for whom TIPRA Motha president Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has made all arrangement personally are returning by another flight.

The government is in touch with the students in Manipur to monitor the situation and provide them with every assistance for their safe return beside opening a helpline operating round the clock for assisting them.

A team of Tripura government officers have been deputed in Imphal to oversee the safe evacuation of students and other citizens from Manipur and arrange local support for safe travels to return.

Reportedly the official death toll in the ethnic violence which has engulfed Manipur has crossed 50, even as unofficial sources placed the figure at several scores dead and more than 150 injured.

Meantime, security presence has been bolstered by flying in more army troops and central police forces.
