Agartala: June 30: In a proud and patriotic moment for the residents of Belonia, a towering 100-foot high mast national flag was formally inaugurated on Monday near Muhuri Ghat along the National Highway, adjacent to the scenic gallery beside Belonia BKI. The impressive installation now stands as a symbol of national pride and unity.
The project was funded under the MPLAD (Member of Parliament Local Area Development) scheme of former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, with an estimated cost of ₹17,03,154. The initiative was implemented by the Belonia Municipal Council, which organized a ceremonial event to mark the occasion.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, Belonia Municipal Council Chairman Nikhil Chandra Gope, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debashish Das, and other local leaders and officials.
Addressing the gathering, Pratima Bhowmik spoke passionately about the various people-centric policies and initiatives undertaken by the Modi-led central government. She emphasized the significance of fostering national pride and compared the current developmental focus with the struggles faced under previous regimes. Bhowmik also urged citizens to remain united in the pursuit of progress and inclusive development.
The highlight of the event was the ceremonial hoisting of the tricolour by Pratima Bhowmik, accompanied by the other dignitaries. As the flag soared high into the sky, the national anthem played, creating an atmosphere of reverence and unity among attendees.
The installation of the monumental flag not only enhances the visual appeal of the area but also serves as a lasting tribute to the spirit of patriotism in Belonia. Locals expressed pride and joy at being part of this historic event.
