Agartala, June 2: The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, has issued a one-week ultimatum to the Tripura government, demanding action against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma over his alleged misbehavior with party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.
Speaking to Northeast Live on the sidelines of a press conference in Agartala on Monday evening, YTF President Suraj Debbarma called for immediate administrative action. He warned that failure to act within a week would lead to massive statewide agitations led by the YTF.
Earlier in the day, YTF activists locked the gates of the DM’s office in Udaipur, the district headquarters of Gomati, as a mark of protest. Despite heavy rain, thousands of YTF members gathered outside the office, signaling growing public unrest and the party’s mobilization strength.
Suraj Debbarma made it clear that the organization holds the state government, particularly Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, accountable for any potential escalation of tensions. “If no action is taken within the stipulated time, the responsibility for any law-and-order situation will lie with the government,” he stated.
The controversy stems from an incident in which the DM allegedly refused to meet Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) during their visit to his official residence on May 25.
The issue has intensified political tensions in Tripura, with Tipra Motha supporters demanding accountability and respect from the state’s administrative machinery.
