Agartala: June 29: In response to rising health concerns in Agartala’s Masterpara area, Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, visited AMC Ward No. 32 near the Gita Mandir complex on Sunday to attend a Sensitization Programme and engage directly with residents.

Since June 22, 2025, several locals—particularly youth—have reported symptoms of jaundice and hepatitis, prompting growing concern. Residents suspect contaminated water as the likely cause.

Taking the matter seriously, Dr. Kumar held discussions with affected families and directed officials from the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department and Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) to conduct an urgent survey of the local water supply pipelines. He instructed that damaged or aging pipelines be replaced immediately to prevent further health risks.

“Two varieties of water samples collected so far have tested negative, but we are continuing with extensive testing,” Dr. Kumar stated. “Damaged or old pipelines will be identified and replaced on priority.”

The District Magistrate also announced that water quality monitoring will be intensified. Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has advised all residents in the affected area to consume boiled water for the next 15 days as a precaution.

To support affected individuals, Dr. Kumar said the CMO’s office would ensure sufficient supply of medicines, and a detailed health follow-up survey will be conducted by Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

Importantly, Dr. Kumar clarified that the current situation does not meet the threshold of an epidemic outbreak but assured that the administration is closely monitoring developments and taking all preventive and corrective actions.

The visit underscores the administration’s commitment to public health and swift action to address community concerns.
