Agartala, May 26: In a significant breakthrough, West Agartala police have arrested a member of a mobile theft gang in connection with a recent burglary at Unity Gastro and Liver Hospital in Krishnanagar. The accused, identified as Rahul Dutta, was apprehended from his residence in Nandan Nagar. Authorities recovered 10 stolen mobile phones and Rs 3,000 during the operation.
The incident occurred on the night of May 15, when unidentified miscreants broke into the hospital premises and stole a donation box. Acting swiftly on a complaint filed by the hospital manager, Prosenjit Majumder, the police registered a case under No-2025WAG053 dated 25/05/2025 at the West Agartala Police Station. The case has been filed under sections 305/331(4)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Addressing the media on Monday, SDPO of Sadar Subdivision, Deba Prasad Roy, stated that a special investigation team was promptly formed to solve the case. After thoroughly analyzing CCTV footage from the hospital, investigators were able to trace and identify the suspect.
“Rahul Dutta was taken into custody from his home in Nandan Nagar. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the theft. We recovered 10 mobile phones and Rs 3,000, believed to have been part of the stolen goods,” said Roy.
Police are continuing the investigation to trace and apprehend other members of the gang. The accused is expected to be produced before the court later today.
The successful arrest underscores the efficiency of local law enforcement in tackling theft-related crimes, particularly those targeting public institutions.
