Agartala, Oct 5 — Police have arrested 13 individuals in connection with multiple cases of anti-social activities reported across different parts of the city during the Durga Puja celebrations, said Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station.

Chatterjee informed that several incidents, including scuffles, assaults, and attacks, were registered under his station’s jurisdiction during the festive period. “A total of 13 persons were arrested. Some are already in police remand, some have been produced before the court, while others will be produced again after their remand period ends,” he said.

Among the incidents cited, Chatterjee mentioned a case in which a man was assaulted after protesting against the eve-teasing of his wife. “The accused persons involved in that case have been arrested,” he said. In another incident, three individuals were detained for engaging in a scuffle with a TSR trooper in the Dashamighat area on Saturday night.

He added that multiple cases had been filed and lawful action was initiated against each complaint. “Four of them are currently in police remand, three will be produced before the court, and the remaining are under judicial custody,” the OC said.

According to police sources, the arrested individuals face charges under various non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt.

Chatterjee emphasized that strict measures have been taken to ensure law and order in the city throughout the festival period. “We have acted swiftly in every case of violence or public disorder. Such behaviour during community festivities will not be tolerated,” he said, assuring continued vigilance in sensitive areas of Agartala.
