During her visit, Minister Bhoumik personally inquired about the physical well-being of the injured girls, seeking updates from the attending doctors. She also assured assistance if their condition necessitates transfer to another state for advanced treatment.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when two girls were playing at the Bairagimudra Anganwadi Center under Melaghar police station. Anganwadi worker Jaylaxmi Sarkar Debbarma allegedly threw boiling water from inside the center, severely scalding five-year-old Panti Debbarma and five-and-a-half-year-old Hamari Debbarma. While one girl lost consciousness immediately, the other screamed in pain.

Prompt action by nearby residents compelled the Anganwadi worker and her assistant, Kanchanmala Debbarma, to transport the injured girls to Melaghar Hospital. However, the initial treatment provided was nominal, and the girls were sent home.

Subsequently, the girls’ condition deteriorated, and they experienced intense pain from their burns. Their concerned family members rushed them back to Melaghar Hospital, where they were admitted. After a day of treatment, the severity of their injuries prompted referral to GB Hospital on Thursday. Presently, the girls are receiving medical care at GB Hospital.
