Agartala: Dec 28: Union Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Public Distribution, Prahlad Joshi, has approved the establishment of a regional office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Tripura. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Joshi in Agartala, where he reviewed the progress of key central schemes in the state. The Union Minister expressed satisfaction with the development initiatives of the present state government and emphasized the importance of improving public welfare schemes.
It was decided that the state government would allocate the required land for setting up the FCI Regional Office in Agartala. A proposal for this project will be sent to the Central Government for approval. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and other senior officials.
Joshi emphasized enhancing the operation of fair price shops and improving the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and PM KUSUM schemes in the state. He also reviewed the state’s performance in various development parameters, noting that the work being done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Northeast’s development had not been seen in the last 75 years. The Chief Minister highlighted the growth in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and horticulture, noting the increase in per capita income.
Later, the Union Minister visited a Fair Price Shop in Agartala, where he reviewed the biometric system for ration distribution and interacted with beneficiaries. He also inspected the FCI Divisional office at Nandannagar, including the godown and Quality Control Laboratory, advising officials to maintain efficient storage and high-quality standards for food grains.
