At the Indigenous Pride Day event held today at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Union Minister for North Eastern Region Development, Jyotiraditya Scindia, emphasized the role of indigenous communities in protecting the environment. He stated that if the world followed the principles and values taught by indigenous societies, global challenges like climate change and global warming would not have become the harsh realities they are today. According to the Minister, indigenous communities have always prioritized the preservation of land, forests, and water, remaining deeply connected to their roots. Their values could have prevented such environmental crises if adopted globally.

Scindia also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by leaders like Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who fought for the country’s freedom, and other revolutionaries who stood up against the Mughal and British empires. He criticized the Congress for neglecting the rich history of indigenous leaders during their rule, claiming that the heroic stories of figures like Birsa Munda and Rani Durgaavati were never celebrated. However, since the Modi government came to power, there has been a shift, with the Prime Minister becoming the first to visit Munda’s birthplace and launch large-scale welfare initiatives for indigenous communities, including a significant fund allocation for their development.
