Agartala, Sep 21 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur, Gomati district, on Monday, officials confirmed. The temple, one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas of Hinduism, has been redeveloped under the Union Tourism Ministry’s PRASHAD scheme at a cost of over ₹52 crore, with the Tripura government contributing an additional ₹7 crore.

According to officials, the Prime Minister will arrive in Agartala from Arunachal Pradesh on Monday afternoon before proceeding to Udaipur, around 65 km from the state capital. After inaugurating the redeveloped temple and beautified surroundings, Modi will offer prayers at the Kali temple inside the complex. He is scheduled to return to Agartala and then leave for Delhi the same evening. No public address is planned.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who visited the temple twice in the past two weeks to oversee preparations, said he had personally invited the Prime Minister for the inauguration. Sharing visuals of the redeveloped complex on X, Saha described it as “the enchanting nighttime supernatural view of Mother’s Abode, built under the Prasad Project,” and said the people of Tripura eagerly await the historic moment.

The Tripura Sundari temple, built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, is over 500 years old and regarded as one of the most significant Shakti shrines in eastern India, alongside Kalighat in Kolkata and Kamakhya in Guwahati. It stands as a cultural and spiritual landmark of Tripura’s rich heritage.

Meanwhile, the state is also developing a 51 Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar village, just 4 km from the temple, at an estimated cost of ₹97.70 crore. The ambitious religious tourism project will showcase replicas of all 51 Shakti Peeths, along with facilities such as gardens, museums, food courts, and guest accommodations.
