Agartala: Feb 01: The North East Japan Caravian, a two-day cultural extravaganza, has kicked off at Agartala’s Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, marking a significant milestone in cultural exchange between India and Japan. This inaugural event is a collaborative effort between the Embassy of Japan in India, the Japan Foundation in Delhi, and the Indian Council for Cultural Relation, North East.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. P K Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department, in the presence of Munish Singh, Director of ICCR, NER, Takashi Kobayashi, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in India, and Koji Sato, Director of the Japan Foundation in Delhi.

In his address, Dr. Chakraborty highlighted the cultural, traditional, and dietary similarities between the people of North East India and Japan. He emphasized that such events aim to foster a sense of mutual brotherhood through the exchange of language, culture, and traditions between the two nations.

The first day of the event featured a blend of cultural performances, with local artists from the state presenting their art alongside performances by cultural groups from Japan. Additionally, two animation films were screened, showcasing Japanese animation.

The event also included cosplay shows, workshops, and live demonstrations of judo and karate. Visitors had the opportunity to explore exhibitions showcasing traditional Japanese textiles, Japanese calligraphy, bamboo products, and origami at the Rabindra Centenary Building. The organizers encouraged the youth of the state to participate in large numbers to experience and learn from the vibrant cultural exchange.

The North East Japan Caravan promises to strengthen cultural ties and create lasting bonds between the people of Japan and North East India.
