Agartala: Feb 25: The Tripura United Indigenous Returnees’ People’s Council (TUIRPC), composed of surrendered militants, has launched an indefinite blockade on the Assam-Agartala National Highway at Baramura hill. This action is aimed at addressing their 21-point demands and has severely disrupted traffic, causing significant inconvenience for travelers. However, the organization has stated that emergency services and examinees will not be impacted by the blockade.

Daniel Borok, the leader of TUIRPC, expressed concerns that the benefits promised to the surrendered militant groups, including NLFT and TNV, under the agreement with the central and state governments, have not been fully implemented. Many former militants continue to face legal challenges despite their return to normal life.

Borok emphasized the need for a permanent resolution to the issues faced by these former militants, stressing that their demands and livelihood concerns should be addressed without political interference. He highlighted that peace in Tripura has been achieved through their reintegration into society, but lamented the lack of attention from the authorities towards their demands. The indefinite blockade has been initiated in response to this perceived neglect.
