Agartala, Aug 26: Tripura has successfully conducted three kidney transplants, marking a major milestone in the state’s healthcare sector. Chief Minister Manik Saha, addressing a programme at Pragya Bhavan on Tuesday where job offer letters were handed over to 45 Specialist Medical Officers, said that such achievements were unimaginable a few years ago.

“Three kidney transplants have already been successfully done in Tripura, which was never thought of before. Both donors and recipients are healthy,” said Saha, himself a dental surgeon.

The Chief Minister announced that the state government has signed an agreement with the MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation to facilitate organ transplants in Tripura. The Foundation, in collaboration with Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, is working to establish comprehensive transplant services in the state.

Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, stressed the need for awareness on kidney, liver, and other organ donations. He highlighted the state’s growing medical infrastructure, noting that Tripura currently has three medical colleges offering 400 MBBS seats, with efforts underway to increase capacity and introduce specialised medical courses.

Calling on doctors to work with compassion and responsibility, Saha said that governance responsibilities often fall heavily on doctors and police personnel. He urged skill development in the medical fraternity to ensure better services for patients.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated two voluntary blood donation camps organised alongside Ganesh Puja celebrations. Appreciating the enthusiasm of the youth, he said that such humanitarian initiatives not only save lives but also foster unity, responsibility, and social cooperation.

Saha reiterated that strengthening healthcare infrastructure and human resources has been a key priority since the BJP came to power in 2018.
