Agartala: May 20: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of multiple transport infrastructure projects being executed across the state. The projects are part of the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme 2024–25’, funded by the central government to modernize and expand public transport systems.

Major initiatives under this scheme include the construction of motor stands and bus terminals at Melaghar, Jirania, Santirbazar, Jolaibari, and Manu Ghat. Additionally, two major facilities—the Rajarbagh Bus Port and the Sabroom Interstate Bus Terminus—are also under development.

The infrastructure upgrade extends to administrative facilities such as the Transport Commissionerate Office and West District Transport Office in Agartala, as well as District Transport Offices in Kailashahar, Bishramganj, Teliamura, and Santirbazar.

During the meeting, attended by senior officials from the Transport Department, PWD, Rural Development Department, CPWD, and various construction agencies, Minister Chowdhury emphasized the urgency of completing the projects on time. He instructed all concerned departments to accelerate construction work and ensure the timely submission of Utilization Certificates (UCs)—essential documents that confirm the appropriate use of allocated funds.

“These transport projects are crucial not only for easing traffic congestion and improving commuter convenience but also for strengthening regional connectivity and boosting economic activity,” the Minister stated.

He further stressed that submitting UCs will enhance transparency and facilitate the smooth release of subsequent funding under central government schemes.

The meeting concluded with clear directives to maintain high construction standards, adhere to project deadlines, and uphold public accountability. With these developments, Tripura is steadily moving towards a more efficient, accessible, and future-ready transport network.
