The minister was speaking at a programme held at the TSECL Corporate Office, jointly organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), where 30 e-bicycles were distributed among ASHA facilitators as part of an initiative to promote energy efficiency and sustainable mobility.

Commending the engineers and officials of the Power Department, Nath said they are highly capable and deeply committed to their responsibilities. He stressed the importance of teamwork and highlighted the critical role of electricity in every sphere of development. Emphasising the state’s focus on clean and green energy, he said solar power has emerged as a key priority.

“Through solar energy, we are providing water supply in 25 villages. We are not claiming to be the best at present, but Tripura currently ranks fourth in the country in power supply performance. Our goal is to secure the number one position by ensuring proper and 24×7 electricity to all consumers,” the minister stated.

Explaining the cost advantages of renewable energy, Nath said hydro power generation costs between ₹7 crore and ₹20 crore per megawatt, gas-based power between ₹5 crore and ₹10 crore per megawatt, while solar power costs around ₹4 crore per megawatt. He added that solar pumps have been installed over nearly 38,000 kani of land, ensuring irrigation and water availability for the next 25 years.

Highlighting the social benefits, the minister said people are now earning from solar power while enjoying zero electricity bills. He also paid rich tribute to ASHA workers, calling them “silent warriors of society” for their tireless door-to-door service, especially in vaccination and public health initiatives.

Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, NHM Member Secretary Soubhik Debbarma, and other senior officials were present at the programme.
