In view of the intense cold wave sweeping across Tripura, the state government has ordered the closure of all schools from January 6 to January 10, 2026. The directive applies to government, government-aided, and privately managed educational institutions across the state.

Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha announced the decision through a social media post on Monday, stating that the move was taken after reviewing scientific inputs and reports from the Meteorological Department. He emphasized that unusually low temperatures and harsh weather conditions posed health risks to school-going children, making the temporary closure necessary.

The Chief Minister also clarified that schools located in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which were already closed earlier, will remain shut until January 13 as per the previous announcement.

The decision has been widely welcomed by parents and guardians, many of whom had expressed concern over children attending school during the severe cold spell. Several parts of the state have been experiencing biting cold conditions, foggy mornings, and a sharp drop in temperatures over the past few days.

Education department officials said that the situation is being monitored closely in coordination with weather authorities. They added that schools will reopen once weather conditions improve and it is deemed safe for students. The government reiterated that the safety and well-being of children remain its top priority.
