Tripura Secretary Kiran Gitte Addresses Border and Flood Concerns in Belonia

Agartala: April 20: On Sunday, Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Public Works and Water Resources Department, visited Belonia to address pressing issues related to border security and flood restoration. Accompanied by Ashwini Kumar, Inspector General of the Tripura Frontier Border Security Force (BSF), Secretary Gitte began his visit at the Belonia Circuit House, where he held discussions with officials from various border security forces. The meeting focused on the restoration of embankments along the India-Bangladesh border.

Later, Secretary Gitte inspected disputed areas along the border in North Belonia and Ballamukha, under the Netaji Subhash Chandra Nagar and Ishan Chandra Nagar Gram Panchayats. Allegations were raised regarding embankments constructed by Bangladesh, reportedly in violation of international agreements. The inspection team included BSF IG Ashwini Kumar, Superintendent of Police Maurya Krishna, ADM Pradeep Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debashish Das, and other officials from the Public Works and Water Resources Development Department.

Following the inspection, Secretary Gitte visited the IC Nagar Nij Kalikapur border area before returning to the Circuit House. There, he participated in a meeting with local representatives, including Puthul Pal Biswas, Chairman of the Bharat Chandra Nagar Block; Nikhil Chandra Gop, Chairman of the Belonia Municipality; Shambhunath Kar, Chairman of the Rishyamukh Panchayat Samiti; Mandal President Sayantan Dutta; and Dipayan Choudhury, President of the South District BJP Committee.

During the meeting, discussions centered on challenges faced by the South District, particularly the aftermath of devastating floods in August. Secretary Gitte assured that restoration efforts were underway and pledged to complete remaining tasks within six months.
