Agartala, March 4, 2024: In a recent session at the state assembly, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha disclosed that Tripura currently has 3,00,029 registered job seekers as of January 31, 2024. The Minister for Employment Services and Manpower Planning Department addressed questions raised by Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, CPM MLA Nirmal Biswas, and CPM MLA Jitendra Chowdhury during the question-and-answer session.
The job seekers exhibit diverse educational backgrounds, with 66,932 graduates constituting the largest group, followed by 83,084 individuals who have completed class 12. Additionally, the state’s job-seeking population includes 71,232 Scheduled Tribes (ST), 52,148 Scheduled Castes (SC), 35,785 from minority communities, and 2,444 persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).
Unemployment remains a pressing challenge for the state government. Since assuming power in 2018, the ruling party pledged to create more employment opportunities for the youth. However, opposition parties criticize the government for allegedly falling short of its promises and overlooking the struggles faced by unemployed youth. In response, the government asserts that it has implemented measures to bolster the economy and foster employment, including initiatives related to skill development, entrepreneurship, and industrialization.
