New Delhi, Sept 3: Tripura has reaffirmed its commitment to water conservation and ensuring safe drinking water for all, with Minister of Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political) Kishore Barman representing the state at a two-day Departmental Summit on Water in New Delhi.

Organised by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, the summit brought together ministers, secretaries and senior officials from states and Union Territories to deliberate on sustainable water management, revival of water bodies and effective implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The summit was chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, who led discussions on strengthening water security and addressing emerging challenges related to water resources across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Barman highlighted Tripura’s experience in managing its water resources and expanding access to safe drinking water among households. He also spoke about the challenges involved in ensuring the long-term sustainability of water sources and infrastructure.

Barman stressed that access to reliable and safe drinking water is essential for every citizen. At the same time, he underlined the need for responsible conservation of water resources to ensure their availability for future generations.

The Tripura minister said the state remains committed to learning from successful practices adopted by other states and incorporating suitable approaches into its own water management framework. Such efforts, he said, would help strengthen conservation measures while further expanding access to safe drinking water.

He also emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in protecting and preserving water resources. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Jal’ initiative, Barman said the programme provides an important guiding vision towards building a water-secure and prosperous India.

The summit provided an opportunity for participating states to exchange views on innovative water conservation methods, community participation and the use of technology in water management. Delegates also discussed the need for stronger coordination between the Centre and states to tackle future water-security challenges.

Speaking to the media after the session, Barman reiterated Tripura’s commitment to ensuring safe drinking water for all while strengthening efforts towards conservation and sustainable management of water resources.

“Water is life, and safeguarding it is our shared responsibility. Tripura stands committed to contributing to a water-secure, developed India,” he said.
