In a significant push to revive and promote indigenous industries, the Tripura Government will organize a 14-day Handloom and Handicrafts Fair – State Handloom Expo 2025–26 starting February 25. The initiative, led by the Department of Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture, aims to provide a vibrant platform for local artisans and weavers to showcase their products and strengthen rural livelihoods.

The expo will be held at the Chakmaghat Barrage premises in Teliamura subdivision under the Krishnapur Assembly constituency. A preparatory meeting was recently convened at the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office to finalize arrangements. Among those present were Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Director of Handloom Ajit Shukla Das, Chairman of Teliamura Municipal Council Rupak Sarkar, Chairperson of Teliamura Panchayat Samiti Deepa Deb, and other senior district officials.

Discussions focused on stall allocation, security arrangements, cultural programmes, and ensuring maximum participation of local artisans. Officials emphasized close coordination among departments and active public involvement to ensure the success of the fair.

Addressing the media, Bikash Debbarma underscored the importance of promoting indigenous products. He highlighted that handloom and handicrafts not only preserve tradition but also serve as key pillars of the rural economy. Stressing women’s empowerment, he noted that the handloom sector offers significant opportunities for self-reliance and income generation.

The expo is expected to create direct market linkages between artisans and buyers, expand commercial opportunities, and introduce participants to new designs and technologies. Cultural performances by local artists will further enhance the event’s appeal.

With strong administrative backing and community enthusiasm, the State Handloom Expo 2025–26 is poised to inject fresh momentum into Tripura’s handloom and handicraft sector while celebrating the state’s rich cultural heritage.
