Agartala: The final sitting of the ongoing Tripura Legislative Assembly session turned turbulent on Monday as Opposition legislators raised serious questions over the reported disappearance of an alleged suicide note purportedly left behind by former state DGP Anurag Dhankar.

The controversy surfaced shortly before Question Hour when senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman raised the issue on the floor of the House. Barman claimed that Dhankar’s wife, who arrived in Tripura on Sunday, had sought access to the alleged suicide note and maintained that she possessed a photograph of the document.

The Congress legislator further alleged that the original note had subsequently been removed and concealed, triggering an immediate uproar among Opposition members.

Speaker Rampada Jamatia intervened and ruled that the matter could not be raised in the manner attempted by Barman. The Speaker reminded members that Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha had already addressed the issue twice during the ongoing session.

Jamatia urged Barman not to create confusion in the House and asked him to take his seat, stressing that Assembly proceedings must be conducted in accordance with established rules and procedures.

The ruling prompted strong protests from Congress and CPI(M) legislators. Opposition MLAs moved into the well of the House carrying placards and raising slogans, demanding clarification over the alleged disappearance and handling of the purported suicide note.

As the situation escalated, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath appealed to the Speaker to allow Question Hour to continue. He suggested that the Opposition could raise the issue separately after the scheduled business of the House was completed.

Following the minister’s intervention, the protesting legislators eventually withdrew from the well and returned to their seats. The Assembly was then able to resume its scheduled proceedings.

The confrontation has added fresh political tension to the controversy surrounding the death of the former DGP. While the government maintains that the matter has already been addressed on the floor of the Assembly, the Opposition continues to demand greater transparency regarding the alleged suicide note and its reported disappearance.

The issue is likely to remain politically contentious, with Opposition parties seeking further clarification over the circumstances surrounding the document and its handling.
