Sepahijala, Jan 29 — The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a late-night search operation in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Wednesday in an effort to trace Anwar Hossain, wanted in connection with alleged anti-national activities.
A special NIA team, assisted by local police from Bishalgarh police station, conducted the operation in the Karoi Mura area of Bishalgarh, where Hossain is believed to have familial links. The search followed the issuance of an arrest warrant against Hossain by a special NIA court in Guwahati, sources said.
During the operation, the joint team searched the residence of Manik Mia, the accused’s father, as part of efforts to locate Hossain and execute the warrant. Despite an extensive multi-hour search, Hossain could not be traced. Manik Mia told investigators that he had not been in contact with his son for a long period and claimed ignorance of his whereabouts.
The NIA action is part of an ongoing investigation, with the agency reportedly intensifying surveillance and intelligence gathering in the area. Efforts are being focused on tracking Hossain’s known associates, possible hideouts, and movement patterns. Sources indicated that further searches and follow-up measures may be undertaken based on fresh intelligence inputs.
The agency has not issued an official statement regarding the operation, but sources emphasized that the investigation remains active and time-sensitive. Local authorities have reportedly been directed to assist the NIA in monitoring the area to ensure the accused does not evade arrest.
This operation underscores the NIA’s continued focus on anti-national and security-related investigations in Tripura, highlighting the agency’s coordination with state law enforcement to prevent potential threats and ensure swift action in high-priority cases. The investigation is expected to continue in the coming days, with additional measures to locate and apprehend the accused.
