Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday praised the Tripura Government for its exemplary implementation of rural development schemes, stating that the state has achieved the top position in rural governance and development performance in the country.

Addressing the first-ever elected representatives’ conference organised to mark the enactment of the VBGRAMG scheme, Chouhan highlighted Tripura’s remarkable achievement under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). “Out of a target of 3,76,913 houses, Tripura has completed 3,73,828, achieving a 99 percent success rate. No other state has come this close to its target,” he said. He further noted that a recent survey identified 2.55 lakh unsafe houses, and physical verification revealed the need for nearly two lakh additional homes, which will soon be sanctioned.

The Minister also announced that proposals under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to connect 109 villages in Tripura are in the final stages of approval.

Focusing on agriculture, Chouhan said a team of experts, including scientists from ICAR, will visit the state to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for agricultural development. The team will conduct soil testing, assess agro-climatic conditions, and evaluate water resources to formulate future strategies. He also announced an additional allocation of Rs 60 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Rs 4 crore under the Dalhan Mission to promote self-reliance in pulses production.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enacting the VBGRAMG Act, Chouhan said the scheme guarantees 125 days of employment and has an allocation exceeding Rs 2 lakh crore, aiming to enhance transparency, accountability, and autonomy for Gram Sabhas in rural development initiatives.
