Agartala: August 05: In a significant push to enhance farmers’ livelihoods across Tripura, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), in collaboration with the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, has officially resumed rice procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for this year.

The official launch ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Inter-State Truck Terminal in Madhabbari under the Jirania sub-division. Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury, inaugurated the event, reiterating the state government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare.

“The increased MSP for paddy has instilled fresh confidence among the farming community. Farmers are now seeing real improvement in their quality of life and are becoming increasingly self-reliant,” said Minister Chowdhury.

He added that this initiative is a part of the state’s broader goal to double farmers’ incomes, ensuring they receive fair prices for their produce. The ongoing procurement drive, he said, is not just about buying rice—it’s about restoring faith in the agricultural ecosystem and building a sustainable rural economy.

Chowdhury noted that the rise in MSP has rejuvenated interest in farming, providing economic stability to rural households and promoting long-term agricultural engagement. “This procurement strategy strengthens the state’s agricultural backbone and reinforces our commitment to empowering grassroots communities,” he emphasized.

The event was attended by several key officials and dignitaries including Debapriya Bardhan, Special Secretary of the Food Department; Sumit Lodh, Director of the Food Department; Phani Bhushan Jamatia, Director of Agriculture; Ratan Kumar Das, Chairman of Jirania Nagar Panchayat; and Pritam Debnath, Chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samiti, among others.

The initiative marks a pivotal step in ensuring economic security for farmers across the state.
