Agartala: Mar 08: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Tripura Journalist Union organized an event at the Agartala Press Club to honor female journalists from the state. The event was graced by several prominent figures, including Tripura Journalist Union President Pranab Sarkar, Arpita Saha, head of Shyam Sundar Jewelers, and social worker and former journalist Phulan Bhattacharya. The gathering also saw the presence of key organizers like Chairman Syed Sajjad Ali, Secretary General Alok Ghosh, Editor Sourajit Pal, and Joint Secretary Abhishek Dey. The Chief Guest for the event, Traffic Additional SP Sudambika R, delivered a powerful speech on women’s rights and empowerment. She emphasized that women’s empowerment is an ongoing effort, urging all to strive for equality and justice. Her poignant words, “Ab nahi toh kab, hum nahi toh kaun?” (If not now, then when? If not us, then who?), resonated deeply with the attendees.
Arpita Saha, in her address, highlighted the pivotal roles women play in society and their families. She encouraged the female journalists present to continue pushing boundaries in their respective fields.
A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of the “Ananya Sangbad Yoddha” (Unique News Warrior) awards to 70 female journalists, a first-of-its-kind recognition in the state. Additionally, Reshmi Debnath from Jagaran Patrika was honored with the “Shakti Roopa Samman” (Empowerment Award) for her exceptional contribution to journalism. The Chief Guest, Sudambika R, presented the awards and “blazers” to 20 media houses. The event was a celebration of women’s empowerment, their contributions to journalism, and the importance of Women’s Day in advocating for equality.
