In a bid to strengthen rural livelihoods and empower fish farmers, the Tripura government has laid the foundation stone for a Fisheries Training and Awareness Centre at Fatikroy in Unakoti district. The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday, began with a traditional Hindu land worship ritual and was attended by Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das along with senior officials and dignitaries.

The state-of-the-art centre, to be constructed adjacent to the Fatikroy police station on government land, will be a two-storey facility featuring a modern conference hall, VVIP rooms, and guest accommodations. With a sanctioned budget of ₹8.85 crore, the project aims to provide structured training and awareness programs to fish farmers, equipping them with modern techniques to boost self-reliance and productivity.

Minister Das underlined the government’s focus on transparency and accountability, noting that regular review meetings with departmental officials and engineers are being conducted to ensure timely execution. He said the project would prove to be a milestone for Fatikroy and significantly enhance local economic opportunities.

In addition to the fisheries centre, Das announced several other ongoing development initiatives in Fatikroy. These include a new playground at the local higher secondary school, for which ₹1.20 crore has already been allocated and another ₹4.5 crore sanctioned, with construction scheduled to resume after Durga Puja. Plans are also underway to transform a nearby pond into a swimming pool to improve recreational infrastructure.

Responding to long-pending public demand, the government has also approved ₹14 crore for a bridge connecting Saydarpur in Fatikroy to Sardapalli in Kumarghat. With land acquisition issues resolved, construction work is set to begin soon.

The Fisheries Training Centre will be developed by NPCC with joint financial support from the Tripura government and NABARD. Local leaders including Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sumati Das, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, and Fisheries Director Santosh Das were also present.
