Agartala: June 05: In a bid to strengthen monsoon preparedness, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Thursday inspected several ongoing drainage projects in Udaipur, Gomati district. The visit aimed at ensuring timely completion and effective planning of key infrastructure projects to tackle waterlogging in the region.
Accompanied by MLAs Abhishek Debroy and Jitendra Majumder, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, officials from NHIDCL and other departments, the Minister reviewed the progress of multiple projects, including the construction of a major drain from Bridge Corner to Brahmabari.
This particular project, being executed through the National Highways (NH) authority, has been allocated Rs. 22 crore by the state government. Officials confirmed that work is currently underway. Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce the persistent water-logging issues in Udaipur town and enhance the overall drainage network.
Finance Minister Roy also visited key areas including Police Line and the vicinity of Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya to assess drainage conditions and ensure that preventive measures are in place before the onset of heavy rains.
Additionally, the team, including the MLAs, PWD Secretary, and DM, conducted site inspections of other drainage initiatives across Udaipur and road construction works in Kakraban Block.
Speaking to officials during the visit, the Finance Minister emphasized the importance of a modern and planned drainage system to ensure urban resilience and public safety during the monsoon season.
