Agartala, February 2:
The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday strongly criticized the Union Budget 2026–27, describing it as “directionless” and lacking a forward-looking vision. At a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala, State Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, party spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, and other senior leaders expressed sharp disapproval of the financial plan presented by the Union Government.

Ashish Kumar Saha termed the Budget as failing to provide a roadmap for India’s future development. “This is a directionless Budget. It will not show any path forward. Opportunities for employment will shrink, and layoffs are likely to increase,” he said, highlighting concerns over the impact on the working population. He emphasized that the plan does not address the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens and lacks innovative measures for growth.

Prabir Chakraborty echoed these concerns, alleging that the Budget opens avenues for converting black money into white and questioning the government’s track record in implementing previous Budgets. “There is no clear roadmap for the future of millions of unemployed youth. Tripura has received little benefit, and even longstanding demands of the state remain unaddressed,” he said.

Chakraborty further criticized the Budget for failing to meet the aspirations of the North Eastern region, calling it disappointing for states like Tripura. Referring to allocations from previous Budgets, he expressed concern over the lack of dedicated initiatives and financial support for the state’s infrastructure, employment generation, and regional development.

The Congress leaders concluded that the Union Budget 2026–27 does not adequately address pressing issues such as employment, youth empowerment, and equitable regional growth. Instead, they argued, it reflects a continuation of conventional measures without substantial direction, innovation, or long-term planning for the nation’s socio-economic development.
