Agartala, June 25 — Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, while addressing a mock parliament session organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) at Sukanta Academy, reflected on the imposition of Emergency in India on June 25, 1975. Describing the period as a significant and challenging chapter in the country’s democratic history, he criticized the political decisions taken under the leadership of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Dr. Saha remarked that the Emergency led to widespread suppression of civil liberties and had a lasting impact on democratic institutions. He also referred to constitutional amendments and legal measures such as the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) introduced during that period, suggesting they undermined the country’s federal structure.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of transparency in governance and credited recent political leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi with accelerating national progress. The event was attended by BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, BJYM state president Sushanta Deb, and other party members.
