Speaking at the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of a new private university, along with allied infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has laid the foundation for multidisciplinary learning, skill enhancement, value-based education and global competitiveness. He noted that the establishment of another private university is a significant step toward expanding Tripura’s academic landscape.

Highlighting the university’s diverse student profile, Saha said learners have enrolled not only from Tripura but also from Punjab, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal. “We also have students from Bangladesh, reflecting the expanding reach and reputation of this institution,” he added.

Saha emphasized that NEP 2020 encourages innovation, research and preparedness for emerging global challenges. He said the state government is actively working to upgrade infrastructure, enhance faculty strength and ensure greater access to modern educational resources. “Our vision is to position Tripura as a leading hub of educational excellence in the Northeast,” he stated.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of aligning education with industry needs, research, innovation and community service. He noted that institutions in Tripura are increasingly engaging students in scientific research, skill development workshops, legal awareness initiatives and outreach programmes.

Listing the state’s expanding academic infrastructure, Saha mentioned that Tripura now has three medical colleges, a dental college, nursing and paramedical institutes, 28 general degree colleges, polytechnics, professional colleges and a technical degree college. He said efforts are underway to upgrade the Tripura Institute of Technology into a university, alongside the presence of NIT, National Forensic Science University, Agricultural and Veterinary colleges, and several private universities.

He added that more private universities are expected to set up campuses soon, further boosting Tripura’s academic growth. The event was attended by Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, academic leaders and dignitaries.
