Agartala, July 14: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state government is committed to development and public welfare, following the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said infrastructure, healthcare and people’s welfare remain the BJP government’s top priorities.

Speaking after inaugurating 11 development projects worth Rs 105.73 crore at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur, Gomati district, Dr. Saha said the Centre and the state have consistently worked to improve public infrastructure and implement welfare schemes.

Highlighting the state’s healthcare initiatives, the Chief Minister stressed the need for early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, COPD, cancer, chronic kidney disease and fatty liver disease. He said Tripura has launched annual screening for people above 30 years of age, targeting 15 lakh screenings every year under its “Sustho Tripura” mission.

He said the government has introduced initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Niramaya Arogya Abhiyan, Lab Network and the Stop Diarrhoea programme to strengthen healthcare delivery. The state has also upgraded laboratory services, reducing the need for patients to seek diagnostic tests outside Tripura.

Dr. Saha said a newly inaugurated civil hospital, initially with 50 beds, now offers services across all major departments with 24×7 OPD facilities. Similar healthcare infrastructure will be developed in the remaining 19 Municipal and Nagar Panchayat areas, with the aim of transforming government hospitals into corporate-style healthcare institutions.

The Chief Minister said projects worth Rs 1,500 crore were inaugurated or had foundation stones laid during the last financial year, while projects worth over Rs 121 crore have already been launched in the current fiscal. He added that the government has earmarked Rs 10,000 crore for infrastructure development through increased capital expenditure.

Referring to the recently held Destination Tripura Conclave 2026, Dr. Saha said the event attracted over 1,200 participants from India and abroad and exceeded expectations by securing MoUs worth Rs 1.21 lakh crore, surpassing the initial target of Rs 1 lakh crore.

He also credited Prime Minister Modi’s HIRA (Highways, Internet, Railways and Airways) model for enhancing Tripura’s connectivity and visibility, adding that the state’s GSDP has grown significantly and it has received over 350 national awards for governance and development initiatives.
