Agartala, July 1: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday held a courtesy meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to review the progress of key road infrastructure projects and discuss measures to strengthen connectivity across the northeastern state.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the status of ongoing National Highway construction projects in Tripura, with particular emphasis on expediting works that are crucial for improving transportation and boosting economic development. They discussed various initiatives aimed at ensuring the timely completion of road projects and enhancing the state’s connectivity with the rest of the country.

The meeting also focused on proposals for the development of new National Highways and the upgradation of existing road infrastructure. Both leaders underlined the importance of a robust road network in facilitating trade, tourism, investment, and the overall socio-economic development of Tripura and the Northeast region.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Government of Tripura were present during the discussions. They briefed the ministers on the progress of ongoing projects and highlighted the challenges affecting the timely execution of road works.

The review meeting assumes significance in the wake of recent inspections carried out by senior officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Tripura. During their visit, NHIDCL officials inspected several ongoing National Highway projects across the state and reportedly expressed concern over the slow pace of construction and unsatisfactory overall progress at multiple sites.

The inspection was aimed at identifying bottlenecks delaying project execution and exploring ways to accelerate construction. Officials are understood to have directed the concerned agencies and contractors to address the shortcomings and adhere to project timelines.

Road connectivity remains a key priority for the Tripura government, which has been pursuing infrastructure development to improve access to remote areas, facilitate movement of goods and people, and support economic growth. The meeting between Dr. Saha and Gadkari is expected to provide further momentum to ongoing highway projects and strengthen coordination between the Centre and the state for faster implementation of critical infrastructure initiatives.
