Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday attended a programme organised at the Rabindra Auditorium of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in Agartala to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, highlighting the need to remember the suffering and sacrifices associated with one of the most painful chapters in India’s history.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said that while August 15 represents the joy and pride of India’s Independence, August 14 serves as a solemn reminder of the horrors of Partition, when countless people lost their lives, families were separated and millions were forced to leave their homes.

The Chief Minister said remembering the tragedy is important for ensuring that younger generations understand the enormous human cost of Partition and draw lessons from the country’s history.

Speaking about the significance of the national flag, Dr. Saha said every colour of the Tricolour carries stories of sacrifice, courage and patriotism demonstrated by countless freedom fighters who dedicated their lives to the nation.

He emphasised that Indians share a deep emotional bond with the Tricolour, which remains a powerful symbol of national unity and pride. Referring to the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the Chief Minister said the initiative seeks to honour freedom fighters while strengthening the spirit of patriotism among citizens.

Dr. Saha made a special appeal to the younger generation, particularly Gen-Z, to develop a deeper understanding of the country’s history and play an active role in nation building. He said young people have an important responsibility in carrying forward the values of unity, patriotism and national integrity.

The Chief Minister also urged students to learn more about the events surrounding Partition and understand the suffering endured by millions of people during that period.

He stressed that awareness of history is essential to ensure that the sacrifices and hardships faced by earlier generations are neither forgotten nor repeated.

The programme at MBB College provided an opportunity for students and other participants to reflect on the consequences of Partition while remembering those who suffered displacement and loss.

The observance also sought to reinforce the message of national unity and encourage young citizens to contribute responsibly towards building a stronger and more inclusive India.
