Agartala, Feb 4:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday expressed pride after meeting Debolina Roy of Tripura, who is serving as a loco pilot in the Indian Railways and confidently operating trains. The Chief Minister, while returning from Kumarghat, made a brief stop at the railway station to interact with her and personally congratulate her on her achievement.
Dr Saha described the interaction as a moment of immense happiness and pride, stating that seeing daughters of Tripura excel in diverse and challenging professions reflects the state’s growing empowerment and progress. “Debolina’s journey is truly inspiring. It sends a strong message to young girls that with determination and hard work, they can break barriers and achieve their dreams,” he said.
Debolina Roy, a resident of Ramnagar-7 in Agartala, has an impressive academic and professional journey. She completed her schooling at Don Bosco School, Agartala, and went on to pursue a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT). She later moved to Kolkata, where she completed her B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. After graduating in 2017, Debolina dedicated herself to preparing for government service examinations.
Her perseverance paid off when she was selected as an Assistant Loco Pilot in the Indian Railways, fulfilling a dream she had nurtured since childhood. Speaking to the media, Debolina said working for the Indian Railways had always been her ambition. “It was my childhood dream to work in the Railways. Finally, I have got this opportunity,” she said.
Debolina also highlighted the changing role of women in traditionally male-dominated professions. “Earlier, there was a belief that such posts were not meant for women. But if women are determined, they can also run trains and perform equally well,” she remarked.
Her success has earned widespread appreciation from across the state. Many have noted that Debolina Roy’s achievement not only represents the aspirations of Tripura’s youth but also reflects the expanding opportunities and growing confidence of women in India’s workforce.
