Agartala, May 16: Building on its success in digital connectivity and e-governance, Tripura is now setting its sights on becoming a national frontrunner in Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration for public service delivery.

At a high-level workshop held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha highlighted the transformative power of digital technologies in reshaping governance in the state. He cited the impact of platforms like e-Hospital, e-Energy Billing systems, and Tripura’s robust video conferencing tools, which have extended the reach of governance to even the most remote regions.

“Transparency, efficiency, and accountability are being driven by digital transformation,” said Sinha. “AI, which may seem like a marvel today, will soon become a necessity. Tripura must be prepared to lead this revolution.”

Sinha also noted that Tripura was an early adopter of digital governance, initiating efforts as early as 2003. Now, he said, AI can further bridge administrative gaps, boost productivity, and enhance public trust in institutions.

The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Information Technology, in partnership with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Kiren Gitte, Secretary of the Information Technology Department, announced several initiatives to advance this vision. These include the creation of new IT roles, development of dedicated infrastructure, and introduction of a single-window digital platform to simplify access to public services.

“Tripura’s digital foundation is solid. The next leap with AI will enable predictive governance, reduce manual interventions, and facilitate data-driven decisions,” Gitte said.

The workshop also launched department-specific AI pilot projects and emphasized capacity-building for government officials, laying the foundation for a future-ready, AI-powered governance model.
