In a significant step towards strengthening welfare initiatives for Scheduled Caste (SC) communities, Tripura’s SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Wednesday participated in a high-level virtual meeting with key stakeholders across the state. The meeting brought together Zilla Sabhadhipatis, legislators from SC-reserved constituencies, senior officials of the SC Welfare Department, and administrative representatives from district and subdivision levels.

The primary focus of the discussion was to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the 2026–27 financial year aimed at accelerating both economic and social development in SC-dominated areas. Minister Das highlighted the importance of adopting a proactive and inclusive approach to governance, ensuring that welfare schemes translate into tangible benefits for marginalized communities.

During the meeting, emphasis was laid on identifying new initiatives while also strengthening the implementation of existing schemes. Key sectors such as education, livelihood generation, healthcare, housing, and social security were discussed in detail. The minister stressed that improving access to quality education and creating sustainable employment opportunities would be central to uplifting SC communities across the state.

Officials from various districts shared ground-level insights and challenges faced in implementing welfare programs. Among the major concerns raised were gaps in infrastructure, delays in delivery of benefits, and limited awareness among beneficiaries about available schemes. The need for targeted interventions in agriculture, skill development, and rural housing was also highlighted, particularly in areas with high SC population.

Minister Das assured participants that the government is fully committed to addressing these issues through better planning, efficient monitoring, and adequate resource allocation. He underscored the importance of coordination between departments and local administrative units to ensure that schemes are implemented effectively and reach the intended beneficiaries without delay.

The meeting concluded with a call for sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure inclusive growth. The government reiterated its resolve to empower SC communities by enhancing opportunities, reducing disparities, and fostering long-term socio-economic development across Tripura.
