Agartala, November 9:
The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a series of statewide Unity Marches to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — the Iron Man of India, revered for his monumental role in uniting the nation after independence.
The announcement was made by BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee during a press conference held at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala on Sunday. Senior party leaders, including office bearers and members of various Morchas, were also present.
Addressing the media, Bhattacharjee said that the Unity Marches will be held across all districts of Tripura to celebrate Patel’s vision of a united and strong India. “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was not only a stalwart of India’s freedom struggle but also the architect of national integration. His dedication to the country’s unity remains an inspiration for all,” he said.
He further recalled Patel’s crucial leadership during the Quit India Movement and his remarkable statesmanship as the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister after independence in 1947. “It was under his leadership that over 500 princely states were integrated into the Indian Union, laying the foundation of modern India,” Bhattacharjee added.
The BJP state president emphasized that the Unity Marches will also serve to reinforce the party’s commitment to the ideals of national unity, integrity, and good governance — principles championed by Sardar Patel.
The programs, to be organized across the state in the coming days, will include rallies, cultural events, and discussions highlighting Patel’s life and legacy. The Tripura BJP leadership has urged citizens, particularly the youth, to participate actively in paying tribute to one of India’s greatest nation-builders.
