Agartala, August 6: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said that since Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister of the country in 2014, the face of North Eastern states has changed drastically.
“Now people of the NE region can witness a wave of development. Due to the sincere efforts of the Prime Minister, there has been a great improvement in the rail connectivity in Tripura. Rail connectivity is also expanding internationally. Rail communication will be started with Bangladesh through Agartala this year. If that happens, you can reach Kolkata from Agartala in just 10 hours. More than Rs 235 crore has been allocated for the modernization of Agartala railway station,” said Chief Minister at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the re-development of Udaipur Railway Station.
August 6, 2023, will be another memorable day for the state as on this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the modernization of 508 railway stations across the country through a video conference.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was also present in the video conference.
The central government has allocated funds for the modernization of a total of three railway stations in Tripura. These include Udaipur Railway Station, Kumarghat Railway Station, and Dharmanagar Railway Station.
The Union Ministry of Railways has taken the initiative to modernize 508 railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Project.
On the occasion, Chief Minister said that Prime Minister’s thinking is very unprecedented.
“Today, foundation stones were laid for the modernization of a total of 508 railway stations across the country. Earlier, the people of Tripura never thought that Tripura would advance so far in the field of rail communication. It has also been said from various quarters that the railway is the product of many movements. Ever since Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister in 2014, the face of the North East has changed in terms of development. The region is being rapidly developed through the Act East Policy. Since 2014, peace has been established in the North East region,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said that Tripura is moving towards rapid development with the concerted efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The railway line now reaches Bangladesh through Agartala. Bangladesh rail communication will be started from Agartala this year. It can reach Kolkata in just 10 hours through Bangladesh which was never thought of before. And this is possible only because of the positive thinking of the Prime Minister. More than Rs 96 crore has been sanctioned for the modernization of Udaipur Railway Station, Kumarghat Railway Station, and Dharmanagar Railway Station. Apart from this, Rs 235 crore will be spent on the modernization of Agartala railway station. It will have various high-quality facilities starting from escalators to modern toilets,” said Dr. Saha.
Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik, MLA Abhishek Debrai, MLA Rampada Jamatia, Padmashri Bikram Bahadur Jamatia, MLA Jitendra Majumder, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and others were present.
