Agartala, February 6:
In a significant breakthrough in Tripura’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive, police recovered 500 bottles of banned ESkuf cough syrup and arrested two persons during a raid at Aralia, on the outskirts of Agartala. The operation is part of the state police’s intensified efforts to curb the smuggling and distribution of narcotics.

Inspector Subrata Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, said the action was based on precise intelligence regarding illegal storage of narcotic substances in a residential property. “Yesterday evening, we received information that a large quantity of narcotic cough syrup had been hidden inside a house at Aralia. Acting on this, police teams immediately moved to the location and secured the premises,” he stated.

During the search, officers discovered three sacks containing 500 bottles of ESkuf cough syrup. Two individuals were detained on the spot and later formally arrested. The accused have been identified as the house owner, Subash Chandra Das, and Samir Chakraborty, a resident of 79 Tilla area. Police also seized two mobile phones from their possession, which will be examined to trace the broader supply network.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Inspector Debnath said both accused will be produced in court, with police seeking seven days’ remand to conduct thorough interrogation and uncover the larger chain of illegal distribution.

“The goal of this operation is to dismantle the entire network involved in trafficking these banned substances,” he said.

Tripura Police have stepped up anti-drug surveillance and enforcement in recent months, carrying out multiple raids across the state to prevent the smuggling and circulation of narcotics. Officials stressed that such actions are aimed at safeguarding public health and curbing the illegal trade in harmful substances, sending a strong message that the state will not tolerate drug-related activities.

This latest seizure highlights the proactive role of Tripura Police in cracking down on illicit drug operations and protecting communities from narcotics-related threats.
