Agartala: Nov 13: Ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections, tribal communities in the region have expressed their anger by calling for a boycott of the elections, directing their frustration at both the BJP and Raja Matha parties. These communities, who had initially placed their trust in local leaders, now say they have lost confidence in the MLA from Thansa and Sushasan, as well as in the overall governance. A similar sentiment has been echoed in the Golaghat Assembly constituency, where the situation appears to be no different.

In the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP emerged victorious in Golaghat, defeating the CPI(M) and electing BJP candidate Birendra Kishore Debbarma as the MLA. However, in the 2023 elections, the tide turned as Tipra Motha defeated the BJP, and the party’s candidate, Manab Debbarma, won the seat. Despite promises from politicians during the elections to focus on development and public welfare, the reality has not matched their assurances.

One glaring example is the deteriorating condition of the road in the 1st ward of Semna Para, West Jarulbasha, within the Golaghat constituency. This road has been in a deplorable state for years, and despite numerous promises from elected representatives, no action has been taken to repair it. Frustrated by the lack of progress, local residents voiced their anger to the media on Wednesday afternoon. They warned that if the road is not repaired soon, they would boycott the upcoming elections.

The villagers pointed out that they had received numerous promises from elected officials, but none had been fulfilled. They emphasized that their votes had made these leaders successful, but now, if the promises are not kept, they would not support them in the future. The residents expressed their final stance: if the road remains unrepaired, they will not vote in the upcoming elections. This decision marks a turning point in their relationship with their elected representatives, who they feel have forgotten the people’s needs.
