Agartala, May 31: Heavy rainfall early this morning led to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion in the busy Math Chowmuhani area of Agartala. The downpour disrupted vehicular movement during peak hours, causing long delays and hardship for commuters.
Amid the chaos, BJP Tripura State President and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee happened to be passing through the affected area. Witnessing the traffic mess firsthand, he promptly stepped out of his vehicle and took charge of the situation.
Displaying hands-on leadership, Shri Bhattacharjee assisted in directing traffic, coordinating with local people and drivers to ease the bottleneck. His swift action brought temporary relief and helped normalize movement in the congested junction.
Eyewitnesses praised the MP’s proactive response. “It’s rare to see a leader step in personally like this. He didn’t wait for the administration or traffic police—he took immediate action,” said a local shopkeeper. Videos and pictures of Shri Bhattacharjee helping regulate traffic quickly went viral on social media, drawing admiration from citizens across the state.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Shri Bhattacharjee stated, “Leaders must stand by the people during times of difficulty. It is not just the job of the administration; we all share the responsibility of serving the public.”
His gesture was widely lauded as an example of responsive and people-centric leadership. In a time when urban infrastructure is increasingly stressed by seasonal rains, such acts of on-the-ground involvement by elected representatives resonate strongly with the public.
