Agartala/Kolkata, Oct 8 — The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday accused the ruling BJP of transforming Tripura into a “theatre of terror,” where “jungle raj” and “political violence” have become routine under its governance.

A six-member TMC delegation arrived in Agartala a day after BJP supporters allegedly attacked the party’s state headquarters. The delegation included West Bengal Minister Birbaha Hansda, MPs Sushmita Dev, Pratima Mondal, and Saayoni Ghosh, along with party spokespersons Kunal Ghosh and Sudip Raha.

Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in Kolkata, “If necessary, I will go there myself. In Tripura, I was not even allowed to hire pre-paid taxis. I told our delegation to reach the spot on foot if needed.”

The delegation later met Tripura DGP Anurag and sought security for party members, alleging repeated attacks on TMC leaders in the state. Kunal Ghosh pointed out that BJP leaders from Tripura can freely visit West Bengal, where the state government provides them full support—unlike the treatment meted out to TMC leaders in Tripura.

Saayoni Ghosh reiterated that Tripura has become a “theatre of terror,” accusing BJP workers of vandalizing the TMC office in Agartala while the police “stood by as mute spectators.”

Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev called the attack “a deliberate campaign of fear” aimed at silencing opposition voices. “The Trinamool Congress was born out of the struggle against authoritarianism, and we will continue that fight wherever democracy is under threat,” she said.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee denied the allegations, claiming there was no attack on the TMC office and countering that “anarchy prevails in West Bengal under TMC rule.”
