Agartala, March 5:  In a significant move aimed at fortifying its position in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura convened a crucial meeting on Tuesday. The gathering focused on devising a robust electoral strategy to secure victory in the parliamentary polls.

Former Tripura leader, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, addressed the media after the meeting, shedding light on the party’s deliberations. He emphasized that the session centered around formulating an effective approach for the Lok Sabha elections, with the goal of maximizing electoral gains.

Debbarma also highlighted a historical challenge faced by the party. Despite their efforts to champion the rights of tribal communities, the local media in Agartala remained uncooperative. However, he acknowledged the unwavering support from the Tiprasa media, which stood by the party during its advocacy for tribal rights.

The BJP’s engagement with the tribal party, TIPRA Motha, has garnered attention. The pact between the two parties aims to address constitutional rights for Tripura’s tribal population. TIPRA Motha, representing the tribal voice, has been instrumental in advocating for a separate state within the existing geographical boundaries of Tripura. Their united efforts have resonated significantly among the state’s Tiprasa community, constituting 30% of the population.

The 2024 elections hold immense significance, with the BJP aiming to build upon its 2019 success by securing more seats in the Northeast. As the political landscape evolves, alliances and strategic discussions play a pivotal role. The recent tripartite agreement signed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the state government underscores the commitment to resolving indigenous people’s issues related to history, land, political rights, economic development, identity, culture, and heritage.
